Checking recently sown seedbeds
Germinating seeds and small roots can dry out before established plants do.
When we suggest this
- Your noteIt is 0–21 days after the planting date you gave from seed.
- Your noteThis is a reminder window, not a prediction of growth. It does not start before that window.
- Your noteYour latest soil note for these plants in the past 48 hours does not say moist or soggy.
- Your noteYour note gives an exact planting day for this plant; an approximate garden-wide date is not enough.
- Your noteYour note: no stage noted yet.
- Your notePlants that qualify in the same growing location share one task.
What would stop us suggesting it
- When you note a new stage, or the timing window ends.
- When no qualifying plants remain in that spot, or their recorded timing is too old.
- When you note moist or soggy soil for all the plants included in this check.
- Done or Doesn't apply closes the reminder for the plants included. "Doesn't fit my setup" also suppresses this reminder for that spot this season.
What to do
- In that spot, check the seed rows for those plants.
- While seeds are germinating, keep the seed zone damp with gentle watering if it is drying. Avoid soggy soil.
- Once seedlings emerge, check moisture around their roots rather than keeping only the surface wet.
What we can't know
- Whether the seeds have emerged and how moist their seed zone is.
The day range is a reminder window, not a prediction of plant development. An exact planting date is required.
Where this advice applies
All US regions.
For the listed crops; combine plants in the same growing location.
Exceptions
- An approximate or missing sowing date, an observed growth stage, or a recent wet-soil note.
