First green bean harvest check (planting date known)

Many snap beans are ready about 50–60 days after sowing, and pods are best picked young.

When we suggest this

  • Your noteIt is 50–75 days after the planting date you gave from seed.
  • Your noteYour note: no stage noted yet.

What would stop us suggesting it

  • When you note a new stage, or the timing window ends.
  • When you mark it Done or Doesn't apply. "Doesn't fit my setup" stops it for that plant this season.

What to do

  1. Look under the leaves for pods that are firm, crisp, and full length.
  2. Pick them before the seeds make the pods bulge, and keep checking often.
  3. Tap "Pods forming" if pods are starting but none are ready, and we'll adjust.

What we can't know

  • Your variety's days to harvest. Seed packets list it.
  • How warm your season has been. Cool weather slows beans down.

Utah State and Maryland give about 50–60 days to maturity (Utah State for bush types); pole types and cool seasons can run later. We start asking at day 50 and stop starting new checks after day 75.

Where this advice applies

All US regions.

Any US garden with snap beans sown from seed.

Cool weather and late sowing push the first harvest later.

Exceptions

  • Plants you've already logged a stage for. We use your note instead.
