Picking cucumbers often once fruit forms

Fruit left to mature on the vine slows or stops new fruit, so steady picking keeps the harvest going.

What to do

1. Check the vines every day or two. Cucumbers grow fast once they start.
2. Pick slicing types at about 6–8 inches long and pickling types at about 2–4 inches, or the size your seed packet suggests.
3. Remove fruit that has turned big, seedy, or yellow, even if you won't eat it.
4. Twist or cut fruit off. Pulling can damage the vine.
