First cucumber harvest check (planting date known)

Cucumbers sown in the garden are often ready about 50–65 days after planting, and fruit grows fast once it sets.

When we suggest this

  • Your noteIt is 50–75 days after the planting date you gave from seed.
  • Your noteYour note: no stage noted yet.

What would stop us suggesting it

  • When you note a new stage, or the timing window ends.
  • When you mark it Done or Doesn't apply. "Doesn't fit my setup" stops it for that plant this season.

What to do

  1. Look under the leaves for fruit, and keep checking every day or two from now on.
  2. Pick slicing types at about 6–8 inches and pickling types at about 2–4 inches.
  3. Tap "Fruit forming" if fruit is starting but none is ready, and we'll adjust.

What we can't know

  • Your variety's days to harvest. Seed packets list it.
  • How warm your season has been. Cool weather slows cucumbers down.

Maryland Extension gives 50–65 days from seed; varieties and weather shift this. We start asking at day 50 and stop starting new checks after day 75.

Where this advice applies

All US regions.

Any US garden with cucumbers sown from seed.

Cool weather and late sowing push the first harvest later.

Exceptions

  • Plants you've already logged a stage for. We use your note instead.
  • Cucumbers set out as transplants (they bear sooner).
